Our Week at a Glance
9/12/16-9/16/16
I’m enjoying getting to know your kids and we had a fun first week of school! This week we will continue to work on classroom routines and expectations. We’ll also begin our pARTner’s ABC quilt project.
Please check my website or a green paper that I sent home with our specials schedule. Our class is split for specials so depending on what day your student goes to PE please make sure they bring appropriate shoes. Also please check what day your student goes to library so they can return their books and checkout new books!
If you haven’t yet done so, please remember to complete the orange and purple forms sent home from the office last week. Thank you for making sure that your child brings his/her plastic folder each day too. If your child needs a new bee shirt, they can be purchased in the office for $5.00.
The first week of students riding buses, getting bus tags, registering for activity buses went relatively well. Remember if there is a change to your child's after school schedule first call the office before 2:00, then you can email or call me, but always call the office to ensure the message is received. You may also want to check the bus tag that is on your student's backpack and just make sure it has the correct schedule written. If your student rides an activity bus they need to have a red sticker on their activity bus tag.
I’ve enclosed a Scholastic order form. If you’d like to order, please return your order form by Friday, September 23rd or you can order online (see attached letter for our online ordering code.) Our class code is NGCZJ.
Thank you all for contributing to our class supply list. In the beginning of the year everyone is hungry! I try to always have 2 snacks 10am & 11:30) since our lunch isn’t until 1. One snack is always fruit provided by the school and the second is usually donations (or your child can bring their own snack from home.) We are a little low on our class snack stash, so if you could donate a box of goldfish, graham crackers, granola bars, anything it would be much appreciated!
Looking ahead, our Back-to-School night is scheduled for next Tuesday, Sept. 20th; between 6:00 and 7:00. Again, please feel free to contact me anytime at 733-5074 or [email protected]. I am so appreciative of all of your support—thank you!

Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am looking forward to working with your children and building a strong relationship with each of you. This week we will be doing many community-building activities focusing on our names.
Reading will be the focus throughout the year. The classroom will be a language rich environment in which the students can learn. For our spelling program we use Words Their Way (more information to come)! For handwriting we will use Handwriting Without Tears, which you may remember from Kindergarten. We will be using Engage New York as our math curriculum, here is a link to a helpful resource page regarding our math curriculum.
Our homework and reading routine will begin in about three weeks. In the meantime, students will be bringing home a plastic folder which will contain information from me or the school. Please check this folder each night. I will discuss homework, and routines more in depth at Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 20th.
This year we are fortunate to be part of the fresh fruit and veggies program again. Each day your child will have the opportunity to have a fresh snack provided with grant money. However, if your child would like to bring their own snack, they are welcome to do so. Our snack time will be before or right after morning recess (see schedule attached), although we may have a later snack too, if needed, especially at the beginning of the year. If you would like to donate granola bars, crackers or another non-perishable item for our class to have at snack it would be appreciated.
Our class is split this year for Specials. Half of the class will be joining Mrs. Bogan's class and half will be joining Ms. Huggin's class. Please take a moment to review our specials schedule so that your child is prepared for each specials class on their day (i.e. have shoes for P.E. on that particular day). You can find out which specials group your child is in by looking at the "schedule" tab above.
We will be participating in the school-wide Positive Behavior System. Students will clearly know the expectations: be safe, be respectful, be responsible, and be friendly. Great behavior will be rewarded with special "bee tickets.” We will also be using a positive card system where your child will have the chance to get a “superstar”. When on “superstar” they will have the opportunity to choose a reward from the treasure box.
Please feel free to contact me anytime with question or concerns. The quickest way to reach me is by email at [email protected] or phone 733-5302. I am so excited to be working with your child and you this year! Thanks for the wonderful support. This will be a GREAT year!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Thompson
